WEEKLY REFLECTION – 11 APRIL 24 BY DR TAN TEK SENG
”Walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.“
Ephesians 5:2
Love is a foundational principle in Christianity, and believers are called to imitate Christ in their daily lives by demonstrating selfless love and sacrificial living.
John Griffith worked as a bridge operator for one of the railroad bridges that crossed the Mississippi River. One day, he allowed his eight year old son Greg to help him with his duties. As a train approached, John noticed that his son had wandered onto the tracks and was in danger of being hit by the train. Without hesitation, John made the difficult decision to sacrifice his own son’s life to save the passengers on the train. He operated the bridge to ensure the train could pass safely, but tragically, his son was killed in the process. An impossible act of sacrifice for the greater good of others!
Ephesians 5:2 calls for believers to demonstrate the love of Christ to the world by their selfless service and sacrifice for the greater good of others.
It is a call to live out one’s faith authentically, demonstrating love not just in words but in actions.
“Only God can give us a selfless love for others, as the Holy Spirit changes us from within. This is one reason we must receive Christ, for apart from His Spirit we can never be freed from the chains of selfishness, jealousy, and indifference.”
-Billy Graham
