WEEKLY REFLECTION – 9 FEB 24 BY DR TAN TEK SENG

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14

Words can make or break a relationship and your choice of words and the way you express yourself can shape your beliefs, drive your behaviour, and ultimately, create your world.

Johnny Cash was a legendary American singer, songwriter, and musician known for his deep, distinctive voice and for blending different music genres such as country, rock and roll, blues, and gospel. He often struggled with personal demons and sought redemption through his faith. He was open about his Christian faith and his struggles with addiction, and many of his songs reflected his spirituality and the conflicts within his own life. It seems that up to his dying day, he was desperate for God’s favor. Inscribed on his tombstone are the words of Psalm 19:14.

Psalm 19:14 is a prayer for God’s guidance in all aspects of life, recognizing the importance of words and the condition of the heart. It portrays a heart of humility and dependence on God as their source of strength and salvation.

“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.”
-Mother Teresa
