WEEKLY REFLECTION – 8 MARCH 24 BY DR TAN TEK SENG

“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
James 1:2-4

Just as a muscle grows stronger through resistance and stress, our faith and character develop through facing and overcoming challenges.

Sadhu Sundar Singh was a Sikh who converted to Christianity and became a missionary in India. He was known for his dedication to spreading the teachings of Christ and his simple, ascetic lifestyle. He faced numerous trials, persecution, and challenges in his missionary work, yet he maintained joy and perseverance in his faith. Like James 1:2-4 suggest, through these trials, he grew in maturity and completeness, showcasing a strong example of faith and endurance to those around him.

James 1:2-4 serves as a reminder that trials are not meaningless suffering but rather opportunities for spiritual development and deepening one’s relationship with God. By embracing challenges with joy, believers can experience transformation and become more steadfast in their faith.

“You may feel broken, but God sees you as His masterpiece in the making.”
